When You Know Your Role You Will Share Your Role and We’ll Be Glad You Did
Yesterday, I had an interesting customer experience with a young man at a local business.
We exchanged small talk and then out of nowhere he openly tells me (without me asking) – “My job is to provide a high level of energy.”
I was taken back, but loved this for a couple of reasons.
1) He told me his role. Now there’s no miss-communication as to what he can do for me. I now know what he can do for me.
2) He set the bar. Now there’s a level he can exceed. Not only can he provide high energy he can also find ways to exceed my expectations that he just set.
3) He did not just see his job as one-dimensional. He was there for more than just, well, taking groceries to my car. His employer gave him vision to a bigger picture.
So the message is for everyone:
Leaders – enlighten your people to a bigger picture.
Team members – share with the customer why you are there and what you can do for them.
Everyone wins in this model.
